Who Are We?

Formed in 1948, Blockley & District Horticultural Society is affiliated to the Royal Horticultural Society and has been a welcome presence in the community over many years, encouraging and inspiring generations to enjoy their gardens. It continues to thrive and is very much a part of the community.

The Society enables all with a shared love of gardens and gardening to come together to learn new skills, gain knowledge and discuss ideas.

We want to encourage interest in gardening across the community, for enjoyment, for well-being and to protect and enhance the environment we share.

What We Do?

  • Meetings

We have monthly meetings throughout autumn, winter and early spring. These interactive meetings provide an opportunity for members and non-members to meet in a relaxed way with drinks and nibbles, prior to a presentation from a specialist speaker.

We offer a varied programme of talks and demonstrations, sometimes with plant stalls, and there is always an opportunity for questions.

Visitors are always welcome so why not come along and see what we do! (Entrance fee - regular meetings - £3 - there may be an additional fee for special speakers).

  • Garden Visits

We arrange garden visits in the summer months,  many to gardens that are not often open to the public. These viewings offer a wonderful opportunity to appreciate gardens, listen to the gardeners, gain ideas, and socialise. We also organise summer social events in local gardens.

Charitable donations are often made to the owner’s chosen charity.  Subject to numbers, these visits and events may only be open to members.

  • Shows

We hold two shows a year, in the spring and summer, at which members and non-members are encouraged to submit exhibits across a wide range of classes. We encourage children to participate and offer many classes to ensure there is something that appeals to all. As a result, St George’s Hall is filled with stunning displays of the best that the community has to offer.

A plant stall, raffle and refreshments always make the shows a popular choice.

Why Join?

We have a passion for gardening and welcome all, regardless of knowledge, experience, age, ability and type or size of garden.

We share our gardening adventures, learn from experts, and, of course, each other’s mistakes, in a relaxed, convivial way. It’s enjoyable and rewarding so, whether you are just starting out or

experienced, at school, working or retired, why not give it a try!
